Our first Winter Sowing workshop was an overwhelming success!  Thank you to everyone who came out to learn about this fun and easy way to get free plants! Twenty five participants selected seeds from over 30 varieties of native plants, and sowed them in milk jugs to create a mini-greenhouse.  Jugs are placed outside where they will be exposed to sun and rain, just like seeds that scatter naturally are.  The milk jugs protect the seeds from wind and critters, so plants have a better chance to grow.

Winter sowing is an easy, inexpensive way to start seeds outside for your own garden, or perhaps for a community garden or plant sale.  Let Mother Nature lend a helping hand and take away some of the guess work! You don’t need grow lights or heated pads—just sit back and wait for the magic to begin!

Check out our Twinsburg Native Habitat Facebook page for progress reports and tips.

Meetings are held the first Monday of the month at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 10285 Ravenna Road, Twinsburg.  Call 330-608-8835 for more information.
